we watched war dance the movie

yesterday we watched war dance the movie and it toucheed my heart. half of the movie of about this school who was praticeing for a huge perforomance with 20 thousand other schools. this was the first time they ever performed in a compotition. the other half of the movie was about th e childrens lives and how they liveed and how they washed them selves and kept there selves clean and feed. my favorite part was when they won the compotion and it was there first time competing.

wardance was a enlightening movie!

i liked the movie wardance because it shows that life is not a fairytale and you should be thankful for what you have and live for the moment. my favorite person in the movie was nancy because she shows that you can overcome from lifes hardships and you can triumph if you have some morale left inside of you and hers was dancing.

War Dance

Yesterday we went to Ms. Laura's house to watch a movie call War Dance. In the movie "Northern Uganda has been at war with a rebel force for the past twenty years. The Lord's Resistance Army (L.R.A), and the country's children has been the greatest victims of the conflict. But here, the children are not only victims of the rebels, they are the rebels. The L.R.A has a chillingly effective process to fill its rank - abducting innocent children. Children - young as five are ripped from their bed in front of their helpless parents. Once abducted, the children are forced at gunpoint to viciously beat or kill neighbor, and sometimes even their own parents. Each child has their own story. The Patongo Primary School students pour their into winning this year music competition." The movie touch me because each child has a story to tell how they saw their parents, sibles, and other relatives killed, and as they live on without their parents, they dance and sing for their future, and for their homeland. It was sad how they told their story on how they had to kill their parent or their parents killed in front of them. But its a great movie, to see how children dance and sang for the homeland and to win. You can look at the trail of the movie, the link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2saj4gJ4Lvw

On July 21, 2008

Yesterday we went to the Tri-Caucus Youth Summit in George Town. To me it was boring. It felt like it wasn't for my purpose of going there. I think it was for college student because they kept saying college student or college graduates. SO I think that it wasn't info to me directly. SO I didn't like it. I didn't pay attention what they was saying at all until the end, when the representatives of Obama, and McCain was talking. The thing took so long it started at 3:00 and ended at 6:30. I wish that we left early because no one was hardly pay them any of attention at all. We could've been doing something else beside going to that thing. We could've been on the computer and learning something new or working on something. But the good thing was that we got out and that's what I like when we go out sometime instead of staying in the Gatepost all day.

We told he that we want to leave her house at 7:00 and we did. Before we left her house we had another cup of smoothie but there was no more banana, so we just had a pineapple smoothie. Then we left. Yesterday we went to the Anacostia Museum on Morris Rd SE. I thought that the museum was big on the inside but it wasn't it was small. The museum showed the history of Anacostica area. We saw an old picture of Barley Farms and everything. It was interesting because I was familiar with the picture and where they was tooken. I grew up in SE all my life so basically I know where everything. While we was looking around in the museum we took pictures. After the museum we went to say hi to Sherrita and see her god-daughter. She was so small, she only weighted 6 pounds. Then after that we went to Anacostia Park and did stop-motion on the playground. Yesterday was fun!!!

Shaken Baby Syndrome

Earlier today I read about Shaken Baby Syndrome. I read a story of a child who is victim of Shaken Baby Syndrome, his name was Christian. Shaken Baby Syndrome is the vigorous shaking of an infant or young child. Shaking makes the fragile brain bounce back and forth inside the skull and causes bruising, swelling, and bleeding, which can lead to permanent, severe brain damage or death. Christian was born on June 9, 1996 and he passed away on May 1, 2003. When Christian was 4 months old, he was crying because he didn't feel well. His father got mad because he wouldn't stop crying so he shook him really hard back and forth. Christian stop crying, the father laid him back down and the crib and went to take a shower. Christian's mom wasn't home, she was at work when this all happen. He was taken to the hospital when his mom came home. The doctors thought that he wasn't going to make it though the night. After 23 days he was sent home. He stayed with his mom and grandparents. Christian was left with many serious health problems. He was blind, couldn't talk or walk, can't eat by the mouth, brain stem was twist, body temperature uncontrollable, his cognitive (thought process) was destroyed, had congestive heart failure, needs oxygen 24 hours a day, serve osteoporosis, hips displace, cerebral palsy, seizures (about every one minute), Intermittent gag reflex (When swallowing sometime it goes down the lungs), and he takes 30 medication a day. That summarize Christian's story. When I first started reading the story I stop and had a sad face and I didn't want to continue, but I did. To prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome never, ever shake a baby no matter how much you get frustrated or how much it cries. So if you have a child please don't harm the baby in any kind of way especially shaking them. Even though you think its not hurting them, treat them with love and care, and be gentle because remember they are fragile.

My day at the folk festival

At the folk festival I saw many of different countries and cultures meet up on one big spot near the monument. It was different to see different backgrounds such as Texas Bhutan and even Buddhist was there! They even had people singing and dancing to the countries music. They had Medicine they made plants and they nice smelling incense.
My week end was great I hung out with friends took my girl out to eat got some home made pumpkin pie ,chicken, broccoli. also i got a beautiful sleep.

our day at the folklife festival

on thursday july3,2008 we went to the festival downtown and there were people from Texas, bhutan,NASA,and a whole lot of different people from around the world.it was ok but it was to hot for and my asthma was stating to act out so i started to complain. On our way back to work we saw this van it had fliped over and people was helping the man and they was not supose to until the police got there or professional people got there to help the man out.

The 4th of July Weekend

The 4th of July weekend was OK. On the 4th, Pastor Teri had a cook-out and I went. I had nothing better to do. It was me, Herman, Delonte, Sherrita, Jenny, Mary, Neme, Bob, and of course Pastor Teri. The food was good. We played in the rain while Bob and Pastor Teri was talking. After we cleaned up the food and when Bob and Neme left we went to go see the firework at the Capital. We took the van and drove it to Potomac Ave Station and caught the train to Capital South Station. It was raining when we got off the station, there was only one umbrella that only big for two people. So the rest of us got soak and wet, but when we was standing in line this nice ladies offer us to stand under their umbrella so we won't get wet. The fireworks was awesome!!! But it felt short this year, I didn't even know if there was a finale or not. But from my perspective it don't seem like it. The rest of my weekend was boring. I had nothing to do because usually I hang out with my boyfriend on the weekends but he was out of town with his mother. They was in Detroit and they had a wedding to go to the next day. But they came home on Sunday early. I went Ice Skating at Font DuPont and the one in Arlington Virgina at Ballston Station. Then I hang out at his house for a couple o f hours because his mom didn't feel so good, she lost her voice. But other than that my weekend was OK especially when my baby came home. Because it has almost been a year since we been going out and I most always see him the weekend. But back to my weekend, I brought me 2 basketball shorts, a shirt with a heart on the back that says GLORY on it, and daddy brought me 2 shirt. So ya I got to hang out with my dad before he went to work. My dad works at night and I work from 12-6 and I don't hardly gets to see him that much except the weekend or sometime before I leave the house for work. SO that pretty much summarize what I did this weekend.

one of my role models

Kirk Franklin born January 26, 1970 in Fort Worth, Texas. He is an American Gospel music singer and author. He was abandoned by his mother and was raised by his aunt after his friend got shot and killed, he returned to the church, where he began to direct the choir again. he got married On January20, 1996 to Tammy Collins. they each had one child from previous relationships. I think he is successful because of all of the possitive things he done in his life. How he chossen to go the right wa y and follow what god has given him and not abuse it and throw it away.

Successful

The person I think who is really successful is me, because I had a rough background and past. I let nothing stop me from reaching my goal and destiny. I have been in the newspaper recently in Montgomery Extra and I been in a Magazine called "The Stepping Stones," by MANSEF, The Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities (MANSEF). It is a not-for-profit organization of nonpublic special education facilities approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. These facilities, throughout Maryland, promote quality services for children and youth with disabilities. They serve more than 4,500 students between 3 - 21 years of age. So I have been publish in the newletter of volume 22 no. 2 May 2008 The Link below will show you the magazine I am. On page 6 and tell you my part of my successful story.

What is your definition of success? By Brittany

My definition of success would have to be tupac. He was born June 16 1971 & died September the 13 1996 tupac was a successful film actor and a prominent social activist. He made songs that you can relate to in times of joy and pain. he started out with digital underground and the worked his way to the top of the rap game.

My favorite movie by him was poetic justice I love that movie!! his mother Afeni still carries on his legacy to this day. And when ever I have a problem or cant decide what to do I listen to tupac. That’s why I he is my definition of success because he is still making a impact just like he did a decade ago……and he was and will always be the best rapper and lyricist alive.
